My writing style in depth and why everyone should have a Modern Resume
My particular style for writing CVs and resumes is where I turn peoples resumes from a series of dot points, into a story about your career progression and where you plan to go. I strongly believe in my approach and have dozens of happy customers and even people I have been interviewed by, who agree my format is much more eye catching and easier to read than the standard format popular these days. The job market is highly competitive lately and we are told that employers only glance at resumes for a few seconds at most before determining whether to read further. The minimalist approach to resume writing has lost its appeal over time when employers are inundated with hundreds of applications, so many of which are identical and appear low effort. It's time to stand out again!
I believe that traditional resume styles of listing responsibilities at a past job do not separate you from any other employee who may have worked there while having the same roles. Employers don't want to know why you did the roles you did, they know you did them because that's what you were paid to do. They are more interested in how you did them, to separate you from the rest. I will write a short paragraph about how effective you were at the job and how through your dedication and strong work ethic, you achieved above average outcomes and your employer took notice. This immediate considerably larger amount of effort put into the resume, along with a unique format that stands out from the crowd, will gain new employers' attention.

In addition, turning the summary and career history into a short story paragraph allows me to demonstrate a strong grasp of English and written skills. I write many resumes for clients of whom English is a second language where their spoken English is stronger than their written, this allows the resume to match their vocal skills.

I believe in writing a short section on interests and personal hobbies, as employers are not machines, they have hobbies too. It could lead to an effective ice breaker in interviews or make a HR manager keen to meet someone with similar interests, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by adding this. No HR manager was ever off-put by a candidate who has hobbies!

Finally, I have a strong dislike for phrases and terms commonly found in resumes which aim to sound professional, but are overused in modern times and have become a turn off for employers. For example, I will not use the phrases 'team player' or 'results driven'. When an employer could receive 200 applications for a position, seeing 190 of them describe themselves as results-driven team players does nothing to help their chances, the phrases are truly meaningless. Instead, I will detail what sort of team member you were, how others relied upon you and how you earned trust to work unsupervised at times. To say someone is 'results driven' is to say they perform work with the intention of completing work, the bare minimum standard. It does not detail your enthusiasm, ability to learn or skill. Instead I will explain how you identified the path to success you needed, what help you sought along the way and why your employers took notice of your achievements. No matter what roles you have had in your jobs, no matter how basic, it is always possible to phrase it in a positive light over others' who have the same experiences.
